ANCIENT PHOTOGRAPHS High way 64 a thousand miles above the sea level, tumblin' on my own i am just a small boy watching as the sun comes out at night scared but standing solid hesitant but lusting for a ride up to the moon i try to step inside now, but mother's voice is crawling through my skin dissuading me from them ANCIENT PHOTOGRAPHS / ANCIENT MELODIES REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME COULD IT BE THAT I MISSED MY ONLY RIDE I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH KINSHIP IN MY LIFE Here i am much older still cradling the secret revelation they left behind Sophisticated small toy a singing 3-d picture that keeps changing, keeps re-arranging and though it's made my fortune drawing music landscapes for a living ain't much fun but i guess it's worth the pleasure it brings to others when it hits them square they maybe once were there ANCIENT PHOTOGRAPHS / ANCIENT MELODIES REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME COULD IT BE THAT I MISSED MY ONLY RIDE I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH KINSHIP IN MY LIFE Someday if I'm bold The secrets will be revealed and I’ll film the story for everyone And if they don't believe it when they see it They can come out here and find out for themselves High way 64 a thousand miles above the sea level, tumblin' on my own (again) the circle crops are plenty and very much the same I've known and loved standing right above... ANCIENT PHOTOGRAPHS / ANCIENT MELODIES REMINDS ME OF ANOTHER PLACE AND TIME COULD IT BE THAT I MISSED MY ONLY RIDE I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH KINSHIP IN MY LIFE I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH KINSHIP IN MY LIFE NO, I'VE NEVER FELT SUCH KINSHIP IN MY LIFE!

GREATER LANDSCAPE Hold on I think there’s a light coming out of the ground Someone left treasure here with a sign I want to be found I moved the earth away revealing my prize A gold box shining, chasing shadows as I lifted it away a gift beyond measure saying something But I don’t hear a sound Don’t put me away me again Don’t hide me away Away... Underneath the earth there in the ground where good things grow I saved all that you gave me in the corner of my heart that is here Part of the Greater Landscape The Greater Landscape And now I’m not alone This treasure in my head On my long walk home To the heart of my name

BEFRIEND THE WATCHDOG You’re not a prisoner here down on the ground Things might look bad but all is well But you have questions here about a sound Why does the moon ring like a bell A myth or ancient rumor will bear itself out sooner or later We’ll just have to wait and see No dark to run from here the monsters are all found Some change to angels I can tell Befriend the watchdog here and learn to love this hound Create a heaven from this hell Depression, frustration, the tie to abrasions grow If you feed them with lies But I hope you’re way too smart to drive down that road The tears that well in your eyes should be used to water dreams of love A chance to rise above - survey this land continue up out of this shell You can’t believe how far now with your hands You make the moon ring like a bell The watchdog sends this message A wise and final vestige howl…

Same Circle 04:21
SAME CIRCLE I caught sight of my reflection as I headed for the door straight out to make way Scanned help wanted sections and stories of a war that might effect us all someday Light bounced off me funny from what I seemed to see was a frightened little child looking hopefully at me Well the vision overcame me and I knelt down at his side and I told him that it’s ok to cry For the world is very scary but it’s beautiful inside and when he smiled I couldn’t take my eyes away And light traced the image and I recognized my face and my fathers and my brothers And hints of every race of man that stood before the mirror and asked “Why?” Why can’t we all hold hands and dance? Why can’t we all hold hands and dance? Why can’t we all hold hands and dance in the same circle In the same circle

DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE IF YOU ALWAYS TAKE A CRASH EVERY TIME YOU SPEAK EVERY TIME YOU SEEK TO BE UNDERSTOOD... KNOW YOU’RE NOT ALONE WHEN THE FEAR STRIKES HOME WHEN THE DEEPEST CUT SPARES THE WEAKEST BONE SOME SAY TRUCK ON FAITH AND YOUR LIFE LINE WILL FIND MEANING SO I'M DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE LOOKING FOR THE SUNSHINE IN THE RAIN DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE BLINDED BY THE HEADLIGHTS AGAIN IN HOPES TO FIND A FRIEND NOW SOME CALL ME A FOOL ‘CAUSE THEY DISAGREE ‘CAUSE THEY DO NOT SHARE MY PHILOSOPHIES BUT I WILL STAND BEHIND MY FAULTS ENCRYPTING ALL THE THOUGHTS THAT ARE REAL TO ME YOU KNOW THAT I WON'T BREAK I HAVE TO TRUST MY FEELINGS SO I'M DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE LOOKING FOR THE SUNSHINE IN THE RAIN DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE BLINDED BY THE HEADLIGHTS AGAIN DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE... IS IT ALL IN VAIN? TO FIND THE PERFECT LANE (TO FIND THE PERFECT FRIEND) YOU KNOW THAT I WON'T BREAK NO I HAVE TO TRUST MY FEELINGS SO I'M DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE LOOKING FOR THE SUNSHINE IN THE RAIN YEAH I’m DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE BLINDED BY THE HEADLIGHTS AGAIN I'M JUST DRIVING ON THE LEFT SIDE IS IT ALL IN VAIN? PERHAPS WE'RE ALL THE SAME PERHAPS WE'RE ALL THE SAME OR MAYBE I'M INSANE?

WATCH YOU FLY The head winds are strong And you’re running as fast as you can to catch a little lift You reach wide out with your hands And the struggle to believe that you have within your heart a fire Pull you off the ground Now your wings take you higher Through every bank and turn It’s a wheel across the sky I’ll be right off your wings And I’ll watch you fly It’s cold here and it’s dry So high above the earth the sky is Stars turn at your request This way might be better, might be best But through every bank and turn It’s a wheel across the sky I’ll be right off your wing And I’ll watch you fly As high as you can This flight lesson learned And now I’d like to rest a while And glide down with you And walk among the blessed, wise The head winds have calmed Running as fast as I can to keep up with you Yeah, you

5 SUBJECT NOTEBOOK JD: Book pages sound too thick. We’re out of minds.. Sunday wake up find myself alone inside my bed And right beside me a rusty pen and tablet by my head Well 5 subject note book is all I need when my dreams are over load 5 subject note book for all to read 5 subject note book Empty pages, waitin’ for the right words to call home Maybe later after I get through these pizza bones Well 5 subject note book is all I need when the inspiration cries 5subject note book can set me free 5 subject note book 180 sheets of love I don't need no proof of jesus walking on the pool Don't need no change of seasons ust my writing tools (just my writing...) And 180 sheets of love 180 sheets of love 180 sheets When there's no truth or fiction flowing through my veins It's like a crucifixion on another plane Sleep time Sunday just about to give up on ideas But then like lightning the line that i've been looking for appears Well 5 subject note book is all I need when my thoughts are clear to see 5 subject note book eternally for you and me to read 180 sheets of love I got 180 sheets of love etc.

WOTW Interlude... You gotta be kiddin’ me You haven’t heard a word I’ve said There’s no one smilin’ on TV ‘Cause it wasn’t a plane Was aliens instead Aliens instead of something simple Now there’s whole new kind of wrinkle In this crazy state of affairs You gotta be kiddin’ me You gotta be kiddin’ me

ALL THE THINGS WE NEED I was lost on a fault line Lonely and scattered and crying like rain Until I heard a voice from inside Guide me and ride me to a place without pain Where I could fly and be beside you It's a such a trip to be so free Don't you know that all the things we need are right here Tap in to the wormhole that connects us to any time All the things we need are right here And they've always been here for us to share Especially when we do not need them Like a sun flare dancing cross-eyed It's beaming and bending exciting the waves It's like a telepathic truth guide Loving and singing and pointing the way Giving up is not an option when it's time you will break through the wall Then you'll fly through any mountain It's such a trip to be so free Don't you know that all the things we need are right here Tap in to the wormhole that connects us to any time All the things we need are right here And they've always been here for us to share Well, Giving up is not an option when it's time you will break through the wall Then you'll fly through any mountain It's such a trip to be so free Don't you know that all the things we need are right here Tap in to the wormhole that connects us to any time All the things, my friend are right here And they've always been here for us to find What's that I hear them singing? : Lo Be Hold The Watchdog - yeah - (I still feel the pull - I still feel the sway) Lo Be Hold The Watchdog - yeah (I still feel the pull - I still feel the sway)

QUESTIONS KEEP GETTING DEEPER Lo Behold the Watch Dog Yeah... etc... Many times we’ve been stranded here when the water gets too high Pay respects to eternity waiting for a hopeful sign Well the questions keep getting deeper as perfection swells the tide As the answers smile the wise old child within us flies And the questions keep getting deeper Sons and daughters out to sea As the aeons ebb and flow The answers will unfold Many ships will have traveled here in the name of many gods Charting clues, bobbing up ahead where the even meets the odd Where the questions keep getting deeper As perfection swells the tide As the answers smile the wise old child within us flies And the questions keep getting deeper Sons and daughters out to sea As the aeons ebb and flow The answers will unfold How long is on and on? How long for the dead and gone? Well these questions keep getting deeper As perfection swells the tide As the answers smile the wise old child within us flies And the questions keep getting deeper Sons and daughters out to sea As the aeons ebb and flow The answers will unfold As the aeons ebb and flow The answers will unfold How long is on and on? How long for the dead and gone? As the aeons ebb and flow The answers will unfold How long?

KALEIDOSCOPE (I am a...) Broken glass, shiny piece of metal I’m upside down the hole again Made of brass. like a little window I see right through the world From here to here I see right through And in your eye, a shiny peaceful vision Circles slowly around and ‘round From here you see so many people holding me And see right through the world Where the light from outside turns around in the mirror Where the scream becomes a cry, becomes a laugh, Becomes a whisper (I am a...) Light from outside turns around in the mirror And dark is turned away at the door Where the scream becomes a cry, becomes a laugh, Becomes a whisper In the KALEIDOSCOPE Turn you around

And all along I’ve been following traces weaving them line by line And all along I’ve looking in faces wondering what I see, remembering Line by line I’ll write a book I’ll write a poem I’ll write a song alright alright It’s not enough I’ll write a letter right a wrong I’ll draw a picture Line by Line... KEEP WIDE YOUR OPEN EYES Write your name like a firefly light Only you can see it You ask the others to come and look but they all turn away And let them go ‘cause now you know Hope they will believe it when they see their own names shining there Their mark upon the world Hide Don’t hide Just one more thing before you go outside Keep wide your open eyes Made your claim in the middle of night Only you could hear it You ask the other to listen close But they don’t know what to say They have to smile ‘cause they think they’re on trial They’re struggling to deceive it But it’s high and clear And the more they hear their mark upon the world Hide Don’t hide Just one more thing before you go outside Keep wide your open eyes And someone says the magic word It’s just like you heard it would be You find a room where it’s locked up tight Only you can find it Some of the others would pick the lock But you know that’s not the way You have to see to find that key out here in the hallway Just- a - back’em each down until all you found the mark upon the world Hide Don’t hide Just one more thing before you go outside Keep wide your open eyes Keep wide your open eyes Keep wide your open eyes

MARCH OF LIFE Some other time on someone else's planet Was a world just like our own Made of ice and made of fire Where the children never tire of hearing stories About the way it was before When all was right on this march of life Moving along on roads that keep dividing Don’t forget to leave a trail And you can follow back to the little cul-de-sac we were hiding That I’d love to share with you And tell you all I know That I know I’m right in this march of life Yes, I know I’m right It’s like a race but you’re marching in place sometimes Whoa I know... When the field marshals scatters and it’s safe to go on So maybe tonight I come to some conclusion About the world is my home It’s brighter than before Lifts me from confusion So I hid my head inside and pass on what I know That I know I’m right in this march of life Yes, I know I’m right in this march of life Yes, I know I’m right Left Left Right Left Left Left Right Left Left Left Right Left

THE BIG CONCLUSION Here we were together tracing problems in the sand Stuck for some solutions and that got you mad You said our relationship was a pointless waste of time Why were we together - we must have been blind but keep in mind It's the journey not the destination that matters in the end But we're waiting for the big conclusion everyday of our lives It's the journey not the destination that keeps us on the edge to survive But when the bus stops rolling another journey arrives You and I are different planets each with different gifts We would take from one another like twins That instant magic - rare attraction had friends roll on the floor Our brand of humor will leave their memories with smiles and all the while It's the journey not the destination that matters in the end But we're waiting for the big conclusion everyday of our lives It's the journey not the destination that keeps us on the edge to survive But when the bus stops rolling another journey arrives All this time you're wondering where you're going to It's a mystery to me and a mystery to you Well I love a mystery Do you love a mystery too? Onward motion like the ocean waves to us goodbye Our trip is done - it's time to make other plans so understand It's the journey not the destination that matters in the end But we're waiting for the big conclusion everyday of our lives It's the journey not the destination that keeps us on the edge to survive But when the bus stops rolling another journey arrives © 2012 by John Tabacco and Jim Dexter

ONLY JOY REMAINS HERE Tick-tock watch the hands race ‘round the clock, they’re on a mission Now they’ve just ticked off another day for us to wish on The bright line is what’s become of time Here’s our position Now take and spin it around till the circle meets completion And in out hearts it will stay As the hands will come around to take the pain away And only joy remains here Grain by grain as the hour glass refrain and never changes All you need is the rhythm to proceed on through the ages Drums and chants as we begin to dance it is contagious The heart keeps time on the beat as it plays us And in our hearts it will stay as the hands come around take the pain away And only joy remains here As innocence we stand and face the moment with a full heart It’s time for change as we seek to re-arrange and get a head start Each as a child who wondered the sundial and it’s meaning As it seems alright that for all our lives it takes shadows and light and courage to keep our hearts from leaving And in out hearts there it will stay Aa the hands come around to take the pain away And only Joy remains here And only Joy remains here And only Joy remains here

about

Jim Dexter and I have worked together on musical projects as far back as 1986 when he came over my house in St. James, NY to play guitar on composer Dan Robinson's songs. We struck up a friendship almost instantly, sharing our love for absurd humor and all things alien. In 1992 we wrote out first song called "Ancient Photographs" and it was good. A bunch of other songs followed (about one every year or so). Many of them ended up on my solo CDs. Some time in 2011 while working with Jim and guitarist Rich Stein, Jim expressed an interest in putting all the tunes we've done into one collection. Somehow the "watchdog" idea figured in all this and thus two new songs were composed to round out the CD and loose concept. Considering the twenty year span of all these songs, they seem to fit nicely one after the other. I think they are fairly timeless pieces because we only had one objective in mind while writing them and that was to please ourselves. We were never one for trends.

It's always a treat to work with JD on music. Unlike everyone I've written with, Jim seems the most flowing and free with his emotions in musical structure. My natural inclination for songwriting is usually structuring a verse, then a pre-chorus,, then a chorus, verse two etc... With Jim, the songs grow organically and the conventional length of sections (16 bars of this - 8 bars of that) fall away. Take for instance a song like "Same Circle". It's not until the end of the song do we get the title (chorus) and somehow it's all been leading up to that and it's satisfying. A song like "Questions Keep Getting Deeper" unravels from a semi conventional folk tune to an instrumental prelude featuring whale sounds and ending with a philosophical chorus with a jazzy edge to it. All of this inspired by his alternate guitar tunings that create a rich harmonic landscape to write melodies over. His natural pacing of when sections come in, make an eight minute song seem like four minutes. That's a unique gift.

In any event, I'm sure there will be more collaborations as time goes on and we can see how "The Watchdog" unfolds. What is the real meaning here? Perhaps JD can explain.

Spoken like a gentleman, sir! (Jim Dexter here....chiming in...)
And although there is a lot more I could say, I think JT did a very nice job...I would only add that I am extremely grateful to John for working on this collection with me over the years in varying capacities....singer, lyricist, writer , producer, archivist and absurdity promoter... for the sheer joy of making music...in between long speculative journeys into the known and unknown areas of the physical universe and human consciousness....the journey is indeed and has been more important than the destination...although we would be greatly honored if the destination was your ears....your world....This would be a soothing balm to our creative hearts and souls...just as we wish our music is for you....

Since my parents met on a secret base...for real...many of the details of my life remain classified....show me your clearance and I can tell you as much as I am legally allowed...but I will say that the Watchdog creature on the cover of the album probably isn't based on any real living thing.......or had anything to do with the aforementioned secret base......probably........
