about

Words and Music © 1990 by Jim Dexter

In 1991 at MVR Studios in Centerport, Nick DiMauro and I recorded and co-produced three songs that Jim Dexter wrote and sang. They were, March Of Life, Kaleidoscope and Line By Line. In 2006, Jim and I actually performed Line By Line together at a retirement celebration for Norm Prusslin who was the general manager for WUSB radio for over 25 years. At that show I played piano. Jim played guitar and sang. On October 20th out of the clear blue sky I got the urge to sing this cool song. Since I had been practicing on the acoustic guitar with Joe Gioglio I was primed to play. The basic beat and feel for the tune is not too far from what we produced in 1991.

lyrics

LINE BY LINE

Too many lines for to follow but I’m tired of parallel
I wanna close the gap and open a new line

Curling around these empty spaces on this funny infinity sign
I wanna hold your hand and start on a new line
I’ll write a book I’ll write a poem I’ll write a song alright alright
It’s not enough I’ll write a letter right a wrong I’ll draw a picture
Line by Line...

And all along I’ve been following traces weaving them line by line
And all along I’ve looking in faces wondering what I see, remembering
Line by line

I’ll write a book I’ll write a poem I’ll write a song alright alright
It’s not enough I’ll write a letter right a wrong I’ll draw a picture
Line by Line...

And all along I’ve been following traces weaving them line by line
And all along I’ve looking in faces wondering what I see, remembering
Line by line
